The final 10 Insect Images chosen from the 20.

These are the ten shots that I have decided on.  I have tried to vary the shots and go for colour at the same time.  I hope the shots that I have chosen are up to the standard that is required.

This image was taken at the side of my garden on a summer's day.  It took me quite a while to get the image and quiet a few attempts to get what I was after.  I do like the colours of this shot and very pleased with it.

This image was taken near to were I live, love the colours of the insect.  Took a few of the insect as it was quite happy taking the pollen.  All the insect shots that I have chosen are taken on a tripod.

This image was taken on what used to be my pond that I filled in.  I do like the detail on the House fly around the eyes.  Avery pleasing shot.

This image was taken at Calke Abbey one Sunday morning.  Pleased with this shot as these dung fly's are only about 5mm.  I like the detail around the fly's when they are magnified in photoshop the detail is excellent.

Again the image was taken at Calke Abbey.  This scorpion fly was near the lakes and managed to settle  near me.  Never seen one before so it was pleasing to take the shot.

This image was taken in my back garden where my pond used to be.  I did focus on the spiders eyes had I had seen a shot similar to this one.  Love the detail around the spiders eyes and the large eyes to with its furry feet.  Avery pleasing out come.

This shot was agains taken at Calke Abbey on a Sunday morning.  The detail is very good when the image is larger, and the dung fly sits nicely on the flower.  I like the detail on the eye as well avery pleasing shot.

This Honey Bee was just posing for the shot.  I was by the road side with hundreds of them, but managed to see this one on its own.  I like the detail arounds the eye of the Honey Bee and the colours .

Again this shot was taken at Calke Abbey.  I like the detail and the large eyes of this damsel fly along with the colours as he is settled on the stork.

This insect looks a very aggressive creature indeed with the needle prong like dagger at the front.  Captured the shot well good detail when blown up pleased with the shot.

ColourProfiles explained.

ColourProfiles.com

This is company that I have used and can explain it better than I can.

What are custom printer profiles ?

Custom printer profiles are individually made files that calibrate a specific individual printer to one type of paper with one inkset at one specific set of printer driver settings.
What can a custom profile do for me ?
A custom made profile will ensure that your printer is delivering the closest matched output to the data it receives. This should make prints more predictable and reduce, or eliminate, the need to make corrections to the photograph you see on your monitor to make it match the final printed photograph.
With greater predictability you will need to make fewer reprints.
Ink costs may be lower per sheet of paper.
By carefully measuring exactly what your own printer can output, custom profiles may be able to print a wider range of colours than the manufacturer's generic profile.
Custom profiles can be made for any ink or paper combination, so you can print with a proper colour managed workflow on papers not made by the original printer manufacturer.
You may be able to make considerable saving in paper costs by not being tied to having to use the manufacturer's own paper to get the best results from your printer.
What a custom profile CAN'T do
Correct for poorly set up monitors.
Print more colours than the ink and paper will allow.
Cure incompatibilities between paper and ink, e.g. bronzing. Although a good profile can reduce the effects.
Cure metamerism, but an accurate profile may significantly reduce the effect.
An exampleThe images below show pictorially what difference a custom printer profile may give you.
The original picture was taken with a Canon 10D digital camera in RAW mode and the picture outputted in Adobe RGB colourspace.
Note
It is not possible to fully show the difference of using a wide gamut colourspace on a web page as web browsers will only show images in sRGB. In the example below this means that the colours have far more saturation and vibrancy in the actual prints than can be shown here.

This print was made with one of our custom colour profiles. A good match to the soft proof we can assure you.
This print was made following the paper manufacturers exact instructions. Dull, flat and with inaccurate colours

Methodology for the above demonstration.
The prints were both made on Fuji Multijet Premium Inkjet Glossy paper using an Epson 1290s printer with Epson's own inks. We followed the supplied instructions with the Fuji paper to the letter which uses Epson's default profile.
Fuji Multijet is actually a very nice paper, nice and glossy with a good brilliant base white that isn't too cold. It suffers from some noticeable colour shift when drying, but finished prints are excellent. A good custom profile allows the paper to deliver the full results it's capable of. At the time of writing it is also available for half the price of the comparable Epson paper. For a more technical demonstration of the advantages of using a custom printer profile to increase a printer's gamut please have a look at this

Printing the Shots.

Ready to print the shots.

Printing your images is one of the most important things you can do.  After capturing good quality images you don't want to ruin them with poor printing.  Having a good set-up on the printing front is essential, by having your monitor colour corrected, this will give you good results.  A software called Huey corrects the colour on your monitor so photo's  and designs are more accurate.  Huey adapts your monitor for changing room lighting and applies your personal preferences for viewing accurate colour all of the time.

This is the system that I use at home:

This does not stop there, as you have to have a good quality printer, Epson and Canon do excellent printers and at good prices, the only draw back with these printers are the price of the cartridges.  Again this does not stop there if you want to have excellent print outs you can have these printers profiled.  By using the same cartridges and the same sort of paper, you can send off to have your printer profiled.  By doing this, what you see on the screen you get on the paper.  A draw back could be that you have to use the same cartridges and paper that you sent off to get excellent images, if you change the ink or paper then you will have to have them profiled again.  The printer that I use most is the Epson R2880 this has 8 separate inks but when profiled gives excellent results.

The Epson R2880 Printer.

The eight cartridges that the R2880 takes.

There are many sorts of good quality paper sheets to choose from photo Gloss, Photo Matt, Achieve, and Premium Gloss Photo Paper.  This all depends on your personal test.  Size of the prints with digital images are varied and  providing you have shot the pictures on a large format with a  (10-12 million pixel camera) then you can have large quality print outs.  Again this is a personal preference.  This can range from A4, A3 to A2.

Some of the Photo papers that Epson produce.

You don't have to invest in all of the above, you can go some where and have them processed, but, this could be very costly and there is something good about processing them yourself.

All the above mentioned will need a good quality program to run from, the software is also very important depending again on cost the Photoshop range is first class.  This starts at about £80 pounds and can go up too £2,000 plus depending on your personal needs and cost.

The outputs that I have are:  All the pictures will be printed out on a A4 format and  displayed, they could be displayed on screens around the college foyer at the Burton and South Derbyshire college.  I have had some calenders printed off at Click and Richardson's Pharmacy Photographic departments.  These images have been displayed on flicker and the blogger site for people to see.  you can display images through internet sites by doing this they will seen world wide.

There are some photographs I have taken in an exhibition around the College on different floors, I have also published photo's printed them and sold them to the public.

Sending and setting up the printer software.

With everything set up in photoshop then it is time to send it to be printed.  This is done and shown below:

The first thing to setup is the printer, choose which printer you are going to use.  Then set the paper size to what you require.  Then there is a set of print settings which you can choose.  You can choose which paper you want, I use Archival Matte as I like this paper, but you must make sure that you have the right cartridge in for that as these printers also have a Photo Black cartridge.  You can't really go wrong as the printer will prompt you with a message to say that you may have the wrong cartridge in, than all you have to do is go through the menu's and change to the right cartridge.

You can use lots of different photo papers, if you use Epson paper then they will be on the printer menu's.  All you have to do is scroll though the menu and click on the one that you want.

I have the printer R2880 profiled so that what I see on the screen I get the same result on the print out.

Below are some of the papers that you get with Epson:

It is every bodies personnel taste as to which papers you like.  The Matte papers will absorb more ink than the gloss paper, but I think the Matte papers look a little more professional than the glossy type I do not like the sheen on the gloss paper.  With having the printers profiled you can only use the paper and the inks that are profiled.  With these printers I am finding that I cannot buy the cartridges from any where.  These are specialised printers and I have to send off for them.

We are now ready to send the shots to the printer.
